Since focusing our lives on caring for Michelle, we've had plenty of time at home to not only contemplate our future, but the future of our country. In each of our former fields, we both met a lot of people who have been impacted by things in their lives which have hindered their growth. But, unlike Shelly's physical drawback via her cancer, there are a lot of people who have hurt themselves and their legacies through self-inflicted mistakes.

Our podcast, Bearing Scars, shines a light on those who have made these monumental self-inflicted missteps, and worked hard to redefine their life's legacy.

First Episode

The first episode features Desmond Meade. Two decades ago, Desmond was a homeless ex-felon with a drug addiction. He was on the brink of making another bad decision: ending his life.

Instead, Desmond rebounded, started college, quit the drugs, got a law degree, and spearheaded a change to Florida's constitution which opened up voting rights for more than 1.4 million Floridians.

Desmond is now a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World, and one of the most respected voices for voting in the country.
